What Survival TV Shows Taught Me About Getting Customers - Matty Dubs Guest Post
Level 4: Serious Player
The survival TV show “Alone” has taught me more about lead generation than half the business masterminds I’ve been in.
On the seasons of “Alone” filmed in the arctic, there is one thing that made the biggest difference in who survived and who had to tap out.
It was food acquisition.
You could have the best shelter, tools, stack of firewood, and games to keep your mind occupied.
But if you didn’t have food, you were toast (pun intended).
So what the heck does this have to do with business?
It made me realize you can have the best offer and business operations (shelter, tools) but if you don’t have a strategy to get leads…you’re alone & hungry in the woods ready to cry for your mama.
There were layers to the food procurement strategies that seemed to work best.
The baseline strategy was that winning contestants entered the competition with a healthy spare tire of fat. They often put on up to 40lbs of fat before entering the competition.
The equivalent strategy in business terms is having a healthy budget for lead generation when you start your business.
This can come from seed capital (your money, or other people’s). Or by pre-selling your product/service to your immediate network to generate your own seed capital.
In the case of Crypto Tax Made Easy, I just provided the service to friends & family as a side hustle at first.
All the income was profit, so I had a stack of cash to use as seed capital.
