Future Guardian,
Inside the Guardian Academy we go a mile deep exploring concepts to improve your health, wealth, and wisdom. But over the last 10+ years we have observed one constant with our members: people avoid the fundamentals. Whether it’s out of fear, greed, or hopium - they abandon the basics and chase the complicated stuff. This is when they blow themselves up and end up 10-steps back. More people would be further along if they mastered the basics. So instead of hype & complicated stuff we're going to outline the ten most important underpinning of the Guardian Academy.
There are Ten Guardian Academy Commandments1.
Below is a review of the first
Commandment 1: The Healthy Man Has 1000 Wants, The Sick Man Only Has One.
If you’re filthy rich with a broken body and imprisoned mind… are you really wealthy?
Health is a top priority. Both physical and psychological.
Your health will help you acquire things in the world. More importantly, it will help you stay wealthy (our working definition of wealth is you getting the things that matter most to you).
When you start the Guardian journey, we recommend that you carve out the time to focus on your health and wellness. It might seem like "now is the time to grind" - and it might be. But if you neglect your health and well-being, you’re ticking time bomb and will grind yourself right out of the game.
We have suggestions, frameworks, and experts that we use and recommend but the truth is this: we’re not overly dogmatic about how you do it. Choose whatever methods you are most likely to stick with consistently and start now.
Unhealthy habits create a negative flywheel.
The longer you act in an unhealthy way, the more deeply your bad habits become ingrained. The bad habits reduce your energy, and energy is what you need to change the habits. The longer you wait, the less vital reserve you have to dig yourself out of the hole.
And if you are unhealthy and filthy rich, your ‘empire’ is fragile. All it takes is one kick in the teeth to knock you out of the game forever. We’ve been around long enough to know, everybody gets their teeth kicked in more than once in their life.
When you choose health, you choose wealth.
Health is a positive flywheel.
Your healthy actions become healthy habits. They give you energy, and it doesn’t take energy to maintain the habits. You can allocate your energy to the worthwhile pursuits in your life. Your sense of purpose emerges and you don’t have to draw on your vital reserve. In fact, you have more energy to pursue what you value as being worthwhile.
Here are some Guardian Academy specific resources that might be helpful:
The Barbell: Getting Time, Energy and Resources Back (advanced recapture2). [Video from Gray Wolf Summit, the Barbell section starts at 44 minutes]
Breathing. We do breath work every morning with Master Jason Campbell. You can find free resources from Jason here.
Custom Workouts. Guardian Dan John is one of the most knowledgable fitness professionals in the world - and has been for a long time. His no-bs approach is aligned with ours. Guardians, Dan John is on many of our calls and will be at events, if you get a chance - pick his brain. Check out Dan John University for a wealth of resources.
Life Examined by Guardian Paul Lyngso. “A Course In Miracles” defines a miracle as “a shift in perception”. Sometimes, a shift in perception makes the impossible seem possible - Paul provides tremendous perspective about fitness, health and how it all ties into the bigger picture.
Nic Peterson’s goal setting and achievement framework and Dr Jeff Spencer’s Goal Achievement Roadmap are available for founding member subscribers and Guardians upon request.
Grandmaster Mike Leoni and Master Jason Campbell are at all of our events3 to lead breath work and support members in their quest for health, longevity and true wealth.
Remember, going from 0-1 is an infinite relative change, it’s much more difficult than going from 1 to 2 (100% increase) or from 2 to 3 (50% increase). If you are currently doing nothing, it’s perfectly okay to just start walking or riding a bike.
In fact, it wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world to stand up, throw on a jacket and go for a walk right after reading this.
Live to learn. Give to earn.
Guardian Academy.
PS. Sometimes we just say “EFF IT” and do whatever feels right (or fun) at any given time. Today, we’re saying “eff it” and making Nic’s goal setting and achievement framework available to all paid subs. If you’re a paid sub, you’ll have access within 24 hours. (“eff it” moments have a lag because nobody else on the team knows about them yet. lol.)
